There is a growing trend for many sellers to sell low cost items and then charge extremely high shipping cost to cover their loss on the items being sold. Some buyers bid before they realize the expensive shipping charge.
This practice allows sellers to take advantage of the buyers by selling below average merchandise, if it is later returned they refund the purchase price minus the shipping cost. Sellers state in their ads all items are refunded if not satisfied except postage.
A similar issue regarding the handling fee exists. Some sellers price it out of reason. Some for example charge over $5 per item handling fee, then tack on another inflated shipping fee of double or triple.
eBay does not like sellers who abuse shipping and handling charges. eBay does not receive any fees for shipping and handling. Just try to be aware and read carefully all auction listing details.
